I was fortunate to visit Antigua, Guatemala during its elaborate Holy Week processions. Most of the historic colonial churches in the city sponsor a procession which commemorates the passion, crucifixion or resurrection of Christ. It takes up to 100 men, dressed in purple, black or red depending on the day in the week, to carry the larger than life 17th-18th century sculptures on floats weighing up to 7000 pounds. Exhausted, each group is replaced at the end of a city block. More than 1,000 carriers plus musicians, Roman soldiers and others may participate in each procession lasting up to 18 hours.

Kathleen's passion for photography evolved organically from a love of traveling in the United States and around the globe. Her prior career as a teacher of language and culture instilled in her an insatiable curiosity. She is always searching with her camera for the natural and cultural beauty that makes a place memorable and unique.
